این یعنی ظرفیت عظیم مواد طبیعی. ظرفیتی که خیلی راحت از کنارش عبور کردیم و خودمون رو محتاج صنعت نو و مواد و متریال جدید کردیم. به راستی چه نیازهای جدی ای که توسط یک چنین الگویی و با چنین ساختی توسط بامبوی طبیعی برآورده نمی شه اما ما به سمت متریال های صنعتی نفتی و معدنی سوق داریم و معمولا اولین جوابی که برای حل مسائل در ذهن مون میاد با استفاده از اون‌طور متریال‌ها ست…

‘cicada’ by finnish architect marco casagrande is a cocoon-like spatial installation in a highly industrial region of taipei, taiwan. conceived as ‘urban acupuncture’ for the city, the bamboo structure loosely envelopes an organic volume which responds to the human scale.

measuring 34 meters in length, the inhabitable shelter sits on a small strip of green amidst busy roads and an elevated train track. the surrounding ground features a oval footprint of broken rocks and concrete, defining a walkway that eventually leads to the entrance of the installation. strips of bamboo are woven through a simple criss-crossing armature, resulting in a permeable shell that filters sunlight into the interior. the ambience of the city remains present but diluted within the structure.

undulating slightly in its height, ‘cicada’ is designed to perform as a public forum for visitors. the layout is loose and accommodating, revolving around a central fireplace situated under an aperture in the roof. small benches provide flexible seating along the length of the installation.

 یکی از معدود بناهایی که  با وجود نگاه پست مدرنش یک عالمه چیزهای خوب داره در خودش.

در دل منطقه روستایی ساخته شده و متناسب با کاربریش خیلی خوب از متریال های طبیعی استفاده کرده. نمادپردازی معقول و متناسب کاربری ش داره  و مهم اینه که برای رسیدن به چنین کار خوب و متناسبی چیزی خارج از عرف مکان و کاربری ش انجام نداده.

Designed by Prague studio SGL Projekt, the Stork Nest Farm is located on the site of a former farmstead and distillery that now accommodates hotel, conference and leisure facilities.

The Stork Nest Farm was both inspired by and named after storks that resided in the roof of the distillery long after it fell into disuse.

An eight-metre-wide skylight at the roof’s peak lets natural daylight down into the centre of the timber-framed building, while concrete-framed entrances lead visitors inside.

The Stork Nest Farm, Semtín, Czech Republic

In 2006 we were asked to design the revitalization of a farmstead for congress, company presentation, holding of corporate events and leisure activities.

For this purpose our client bought 19th century farmstead located at a large pound. The farmstead included a distillery with it’s chimney. From 1926 there have lived storks on the chimney. It became the main reason for buying this farm.

The farm is located 50 kilometers to the south from Prague. The surrounding landscape reminds piedmont area with large forest complexes, vast meadows, wetlands and a great network of ponds.

Since the end of the 80′s from the 20th century the farm has been abandoned and the buildings quickly decayed.

The only solitary residents who remained were the storks on the distillery’s chimney. The Stork’s Nest became a symbol for us, which affected the conception of the riding arena and thinking about all the objects of this project.

It wasn’t a formal symbol for us. We were fascinated by stork’s fidelity. Almost 90 years generations of storks are returning from Africa to the farm and we tried to design the farm in order to bring back people here again.

These birds also fascinated us by their endurance in building their nest. After decades They construct still the same, no doubt about the shape and material, still in the same place and with no desire for originality, which bother all architects and builders nowadays. Storks don‘t look for exceptional places. They don‘t want to distinguish themselves and compete with others. Storks became a symbol for us in the approach to construction. Our design of the farm was led in humility to these bird architects.

The old farmstead consisted of an enclosed yard of an almost square ground plan and addition of a piggery. The yard contained two dwelling houses, a distillery, a barn and a stable. Valuable objects were preserved and buildings of poor quality we demolished and replaced by new ones.

The residential yard consist of a reception, a hotel, conference hall, restaurant, pool and bowling and house with private garden for VIP guests. Beside this residental yard we have built another new yard for the animals.

In this section we have placed a circular riding arena in the shape of a stork nest. It has an external diameter of 34 meters and height of 12,5 meters. The building is used for riding or for a variety of presentations, cultural and social events. Riding arena is located near the stables, and is directly connected to restaurant. The supporting structure is made of glulam timber beams. The external cladding is made of translucent polycarbonate. The oak logs, give the structure an expresive appearance and also provide shading. They were fixed to the building at the total amount of 200 tons at the length of 7, 9 and 11 meters.

At the top of the building there is a central sky-light with a diameter of 8 meters. It serves for intensive ventilation of the internal space by natural air flow. The natural ventilation of the arena provides a good climate.

The arena´s riding surface is made of sand with capillary irrigation for equestrian sport. It can be covered with plywood boards during other sorts of events. The riding area is surrounded by a protective barrier and a stand for approximately 200 people. There is VIP stand upstairs.

The Stork nest farm was completed in 2010. The riding arena became a landmark in the area of the farm and an element which attracts attention in wide neighbourhood. Later, our firm designed the center for protection of fauna to the farm and recently a large rectangular riding arena.

Pio Pio restaurant by Sebastian Mariscal in New York




The city that never sleeps is notorious for its energy, diversity and relentless nature of thriving culture and innovation. A hot spot for pushing retail and hospitality experiences, the city perpetually finds ways to surprise you and inspire you. As a frequent New York City visitor, I often try to explore new urban veins in order to maintain New York as the "never-ending story." Although every visit seems to have its own element of surprise, there has been an almost constant behavior to the city - its connection to the streetscape.





The essence of any urban sidewalk is (1) directing pedestrian flow, (2) creating a protective division parallel to the street, (3) staging an experience adjacent to the vertical elements. The goal to countless fit-out spaces is to provide a strong connection to the streetscape in order to attract busy pedestrians into the space. A brief pause into the vitrine often provides you with the decision on whether the internal experience is worth your time. Nonetheless, the connection and accessibility to the street are a key factor to the New York fit-out. Although connecting to the street is a common behavior of many fit-outs, San Diego-based Sebastian Mariscal Studio, decided to provide an enclave from the busy artery. The Pio Pio restaurant offers the flavor of Latin america and an unorthodox connection to the New york City street.





Located in the Hell's Kitchen district of Manhattan (between 34th and 57th Streets), this gritty neighborhood is historically famous for its rough look, busy underworld and ethnic conflicts that inspired the West Side Story. Far from its once notorious culture, this neighborhood is now home to diverse gastronomic experiences, aspiring actors and a fast changing social fabric.

Since transparency is common and expected, Sebastian Mariscal wanted to lead and transport people to a different place - a Latin American place. The 5,268-square-foot space seems improbable when looking at it from its facade. The L-shaped plan provides an opportunity to divide the space into a progression of smaller experiences until it opens up into the main dining space. Spatially, each alcove channels your experience to the rich materials, and only as you move through it, does it unfold the the flavors of Latin America and further disconnect you from the New York City street.







Although Peruvian in its gastronomic experience, Sebastian Mariscal wanted to utilize materials that resonate to the Latin American culture and way of life.



"The original design was for a Mexican Restaurant, but we wanted to connect non literally to the experience of the Latin American Culture. Touching more on emotions in the environment and juxtaposition of space rather than literal cultural elements."

The simplicity and humble selection of materials narrates the vernacular architecture in Latin America; concrete, wood and stone. This creates a narrative of contradictions. The wood is Ocotillo Canes that were harvested on a Ranch in Mexico. They were allowed to dry out in the sun for 5 months, then shipped to a kiln in upstate New York, then brought to the site where they debarked by hand. The mixture of contrasting materials sets the tone to a pleasant experience as it amalgamates with the food.



In a sea of steel and glass, the wood and concrete serve a visual and tactile queue to something new, attracting passersby into the space. Its silent, yet distinct sense of arrival serves as an example of how design can speak without the overt use use of typography and graphics (if done correctly). Abrupt turns within the space are softened by the consistent use of horizontal wood planks that direct you though the space, not only acting as skin but also as a directional wayfinding method. The undertone of the space allows the food, people and conversation to be the focus - a cultural staple of Latin American culture. Pio Pio is a must culinary destination if you are in New York City.
